Fresh Air Interview with Paul Watson

This interview with Terri Gross and Paul Watson is a perfect example of how a photograph functions as an artifact of poltical, social, cultural and personal experience and consequences.

I do not expect you to view the images he speaks of, however, you will listen to the entire interview and be prepared to ask/discuss and engage in conversation in class on Monday, October the 8th.

Alright, so I might have some household names for you all but just in case I'm throwing them out there. Robert and Shana Parke-Harrison. I have loved their work for years. Yet, their new color work is almost too obviously digitally altered. Their older bag of tricks works really well called, "The Architect's Brother." Multiple medium usage with set design and painting. (even though some digital alterations might have occured) Beautiful work.

history of pinhole photo per photo.net

I won't copy the whole thing here - but it's a great article on the lengthy history of pinhole photography - illustrious even.

virgin blog

never done a blog before.
kim wanted us to introduce an artist.
I just want to put Charles H. Traub and Shen Wei out there
I don't know how to post images, but when i learn how i will put the ones i like up,
I really enjoy Charles' early works, indecent exposure, and in the still life sections of his website www.charlestraub.com
Shen Wei, i like some but not all, and don't think they work as a series.
sometimes i am bored with her images, but envy her selection of models, check it out www.shenphoto.com

first day of class - Photo II and Portfolio

hey there - so I attended this conference over break - which is why I'm so bleary eyed this, the first day of Spring term - and of course everyone was talking about how to integrate new technology into the classroom -

Web CT is supposed to handle this for PCC people - but what they've neglected to take into consideration is that we artists need a lot of space and a lot of flexibility as far as what we post, images we post and how fast we want things to show up.

So - that is why I'm trying out the blog rather than using Web CT or even a Wiki which is too text based for me.

I know most of us have access to digital cameras - even those of us who work in film - but don't worry - for those of you who do not, there are two options: the first being that in our class you will learn how to scan your film and digitize it for the web. The second option is that the library has digital cameras available to rent for a 2 day period I belive and it's free.

Welcome to the experiment

Welcome Folks~

welcome to the pcc photo blog - as of this moment the blog is open to all photography students who are enrolled in my classes, but I'm hoping that eventually we will expand it to the other photography instructors and the entire photography student community.
