Afganistan, Iraq, and other Assorted Captures

I spent a couple of years deployed overseas with the US Army, and spent my free time with my camera. If you are interested in checking out some of the pictures I've taken, I'm happy to share them. They can be found on my Flickr page.

Celine Clanet at Blue Sky Gallery Opens jan7th

If you are in the Portland area, please join us for Céline's Clanet's opening tonight (Thursday, 7th) at Blue Sky Gallery (122 NW 8th Ave). Céline will also give a talk about her work on Saturday the 9th at 3pm, also at Blue Sky Gallery.

Céline's Clanet's series Máze is a look at the Sámi people, who historically are spread out from the extreme northwest of Scandinavia as far as the Kola peninsula in Russia, surviving for thousands of years in extreme climatic conditions. Their existence is often precarious, as they have lived through periods of colonization and the gradual erosion of their culture. The Máze series of photographs touches upon the environmental, political and economic aspects of the Sámi, but the pictures are also concerned with broader contemporary issues such as globalization and the preservation of individual identity.
